Fast Facts

Registration begins February 15 for members of the North Carolina Museum of History Associates and March 1 for the general public.

Need-based scholarships are available.

Enrollment is limited to 12 participants per camp for K–2; 14 participants per camp for 3–5 and 6–8.

The fees are $75 for Associates members and $85 for the general public.

Set sail for adventure on the coast! Learn about fierce pirates like Blackbeard and Anne Bonney, build a lighthouse, wear pirate’s clothing, taste sea rations, and listen to seafaring stories.

American Indian Life Session  I       
Completed grades K–2

1:00–4:30 p.m.

More American Indians live in North Carolina than in any state east of the Mississippi. Find out about past and present tribes, make a coil pot, design your own beadwork pattern, and listen to stories from our state’s first people.

History Heroes

Who were the people making history in North Carolina? Learn about North Carolina’s famous and infamous characters, from pirates and spies to inventors and noblemen.

In the past, as today, the lives and activities of North Carolinians revolved around the seasons. Design a springtime hat, make a kite, churn butter, create a snow globe and celebrate all the holidays of the year in one week!

Get a taste of what life was like on the eve of the American Revolution. Listen to stories, play period games, learn a trade, and look at period clothing.

What was it like to live during World War II? Listen to wartime and swing music; taste Victory cooking; find out what soldiers wore, ate, and carried; write a V-mail letter; and shop with ration cards and red points.

What did people do before television, videos, and Nintendo? Find out by spending a week making toys, playing games, and having old-fashioned fun.

What do crab pots, shad boats, and chanteymen have in common? The sea, of course! Find out what makes our coast so special as you journey to the beach without ever leaving Raleigh.

The times they were a-changin’. Explore the music, fashion, art and politics of this turbulent decade. A field trip to the Greensboro Historical Society completes your groovy adventure.

Go behind the scenes at the museum. Learn how to present a Gallery Cart and make your own exhibit. You’ll earn a certificate as a junior volunteer for the upcoming year!
