American Indian Discovery Tour
Grades K–3, one hour, maximum 35 students, docent led.
Offered September–February on Tuesdays through Fridays.
How did North Carolina's first people look, dress, or cook, and how do we know these things? Touch, see, and even smell reproduction artifacts. See the American Indian community as it existed centuries ago and learn about its contributions to today's communities.
The American Indian Discovery Tour meets the following Standard Course of Study goals:
Kindergarten: Social Studies Goals 1 and 3; Science Goals 1, 3, and 4

Making Music in North Carolina Discovery Tour
Grades K–3, one hour, maximum 35 students, docent led.

What is a string band and how does it sound? Explore North Carolina's musical heritage by looking at and listening to traditional instruments. Continue learning with a visit to a small exhibit with more examples of musical instruments.
The Making Music in North Carolina Discovery Tour meets the following Standard Course of Study goals:

Hands-On Heritage Discovery Tour
Grades 4–8, one hour, maximum 35 students, docent led.
Offered September–May on Tuesdays through Fridays.
Why did early Native peoples make baskets? What is a duck decoy, and why are decoys still made today? Explore the traditions of various cultures and communities in North Carolina. Find out more about our heritage by visiting specific exhibits and touching and learning about objects that have been made for centuries in our state.
The Hands-On Heritage Discovery Tour meets the following Standard Course of Study goals:
Grade 4: Social Studies Goals 1, 2, 3, and 5; Science Goal 1; Language Arts Goal 2
Grade 8: Social Studies Goals 1 and 5; Science Goal 2; Language Arts Goals 1 and 2
North Carolina History Spotlight Tour
Grades 4–8, one hour, maximum 35 students, teacher led.
Offered October–December and March–May.
What's in the spotlight today? Visit exhibits containing rotating "spotlight" stations staffed by volunteers to learn more about certain artifacts or specific sections of the exhibits. Groups will explore the museum at their own pace. On a spotlight tour, no two visits to the museum are the same!

North Carolina History Highlights Tour
Grades 4–12 and adults, one hour, maximum 35 people, docent led.
Offered July–September on Tuesday through Friday mornings, and January–February on Tuesday through Friday mornings and afternoons. Also available on Saturdays and Sundays.
This tour features highlights from many of the museum's exhibits, providing an overview of the people and events shaping North Carolina history.
The North Carolina History Highlights tour meets the following Standard Course of Study goals:
Grade 4: Social Studies Goals 2, 3, 5, and 7; Language Arts Goals 2 and 3

African American History Highlights Tour

Visit several exhibits on this tour to discover the contributions of African Americans to North Carolina history.

Self-Guided Tour
All age groups, one hour, maximum 35 people, led by teacher or other adult.
Offered Tuesdays through Fridays. Also available on Saturdays and Sundays.
Discover the exhibits at your own pace. Choose from a list of themed self-guided tours that allow groups to look for specific artifacts in the museum. You may also create your own tour based on current exhibits.
