From governors’ wives to prominent socialites, Kay’s clientele included a who’s who of North Carolina society. Each year as many as 50 to 60 young women and their mothers would seek coveted appointments to have a debutante and/or wedding dress made. Some brought Kay expensive materials from abroad. Others trusted the designer to choose what would look best.

In 2006 Kay’s grandson, Ralph Campbell Jr., donated this scrapbook to the museum. It contains portraits, newspaper clippings, and candid photos given to Kay by her clients. It is a testament not only to her exquisite work but to the relationships that she built with her debutantes, brides, and community.
