Rookie Chapter of the Year
The Tar Heel Junior Historian Association began the Rookie Chapter of the Year award in 1991 to recognize a first-year junior historian chapter that exhibits enthusiasm for the association’s goals of promoting local and state history. Chapters are judged on involvement in their community and their participation in the contests offered by the Tar Heel Junior Historian Association. The winner of this year’s award participated in several projects. Students researched stories, wrote scripts, and performed skits about Tar Heel folklore and legends for the news, created North Carolina inventor trading cards, and even wrote comic books about pirates. They submitted eleven projects for this year’s competitions, including a submission for this award! The 2007 Rookie Chapter of the Year is Blackbeard’s Brigade, Carnage Middle School, Raleigh, Carrie Kincaid, adviser.
