June Programs at the N.C. Museum of History
If you’re looking for free activities this June, look no further than the N.C. Museum of History in Raleigh. A June 7 Family Day celebrating North Carolina’s coastal heritage will be filled with live entertainment, craft demonstrations, hands-on activities, food tastings and informative presentations. This Saturday event will feature 26 presenters, ranging from crab pot makers to singers and storytellers. The Family Day complements the new exhibit ArtDuckO: Waterfowl Culture in North Carolina.
On June 11, hear the creator and curator of A Thousand Words: Photographs of Vietnam Veterans describe how this traveling exhibit for — and by — Vietnam veterans began as a class photography project at Sawtooth School for Visual Art in Winston-Salem. Today, this powerful exhibit of national significance is on national tour. Martin Tucker will share stories about the exhibit’s compelling images.
These and other June programs are presented as part of “Telling Our Stories,” a yearlong celebration showcasing North Carolina’s arts, heritage and cultural life. “Telling Our Stories” is an initiative by the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources.
