The N.C. Museum of History offers a First Friday exhibit reception, programs, and a food drive in conjunction with the exhibit In Search of a New Deal: Images of North Carolina, 1935-1941, opening Thursday, Oct. 29, in Raleigh.
During the Nov. 6 exhibit reception, tour the exhibit, and see a preview of an episode to be featured on PBS’s American Experience television miniseries “The 1930s,” which begins airing on UNC-TV on Oct. 26.
In other programs, hear a lecture or make a Depression-era craft. All events are free and evening and weekend parking is free.

Enjoy food and beverage, and tour this traveling exhibit featuring Farm Security Administration photographs documenting rural life in Depression-era North Carolina. Exhibit sponsorship is provided by UNC-TV.
In Daniels Auditorium, see a preview of an episode to be featured on PBS’s American Experience television miniseries “The 1930s,” which begins airing on UNC-TV on Oct. 26. During the Nov. 6 event, UNC-TV will present an episode about Seabiscuit, a racehorse that became a symbol of triumph over adversity during the Depression. In the 1930s Pres. Franklin Roosevelt instituted the New Deal Resettlement Program, which offered the rural poor the opportunity to purchase land. Learn about Tillery Resettlement Farm, one of only 15 African American resettlement projects in the nation.
Food Drive for the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina
Thursday, Oct. 29-Sunday, Nov. 8
The similarities between today’s economic hardships and those presented in the exhibit are all-too familiar in North Carolina. Help other Tar Heels in need by bringing canned goods and other nonperishable items for this worthy cause. A collection bin will be placed outside the exhibit for donations.
