Workshop FAQs

Don’t see your question here? Post it on the workshop’s bulletin board or contact Tricia Blakistone at 919-807-7971 or tricia.l.blakistone@ncdcr.gov.

Q: Do assignments have to be submitted in order?
A: No, you may complete and submit assignments in any order. You may also submit them all together at the end of the course if you prefer.

Q: I’m not teaching at present and don’t know if I’ll need reading or technology credits for my next position. If I complete the reading or technology requirements and later find that I don’t need the credits, can I use them as regular content credit?
A: Yes. We advise participants in your situation to complete the reading or technology assignments just in case they might need those credits. It’s no extra work, and you can always use them as content credit. The reverse, however, is not true: you cannot get reading or technology CEUs without completing the technology assignments.

Q: My principal/LEA is reluctant to allow me to earn reading or technology credits for the workshop. Can I get additional documentation or an explanation along with my certificate of participation to prove that the course contains significant reading or technology content?
A: Yes. If you need further verification, the museum can provide you (or your principal or LEA) with a letter detailing the reading or technology requirements. Your principal or LEA may also contact Tricia Blakistone directly, who will answer questions or clarify the requirements.

Q: I’d like to alter an assignment to better fit my needs (for instance, as a teacher of U.S. history, I’d like to write a biography on a woman not from North Carolina). May I do this?
A: Yes. We hope that participants will be able to use the assignments in their classrooms, and so we encourage them to adapt the assignments to their individual needs.

Q: I’ve gotten too busy to finish all of the workshop assignments, but I’ve completed a few. Will I receive credit for what I’ve done, or must I turn in all four assignments?
A: You will get credit for what you’ve completed. Each assignment is worth ten contact hours (or one CEU), so if you’ve submitted two assignments, your certificate of participation will state that you’ve earned twenty contact hours. We encourage you to read all of the workshop material even if you don’t complete the assignments.

Q: Even though participants can earn up to four CEUs, I only need two (or one or three). Do I still have to complete all four assignments? If not, does it matter which assignments I do?
A: No, you don’t have to complete all of them. Each assignment is worth ten contact hours (one CEU), so if you need two CEUs, you need complete only two assignments of your choosing. We encourage you to read all of the material even if you don’t complete the assignments.
