Description: The Battle of Moores Creek Bridge initiated full-blown conflict in North Carolina during the Revolutionary War. Near Wilmington in February 1776, American Patriots intercepted and defeated American Loyalists as the latter marched from Cross Creek toward Brunswick Town on the lower Cape Fear River. Join Dr. Chris E. Fonvielle Jr., professor emeritus of history at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, as he discusses what led to the engagement, its outcome, and its significance for North Carolina and the burgeoning nation.

Speaker bio: Chris E. Fonvielle Jr. is a native Wilmingtonian with a lifelong interest in American Civil War, North Carolina, and Cape Fear history. He received his BA in anthropology at UNCW, his MA in American history at East Carolina University, and his PhD from the University of South Carolina. After Fonvielle retired from UNCW, he was awarded professor emeritus status and presented with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine for distinguished service to the state of North Carolina.
