Speakers: Mark Decena, Director, Farming While Black

Farming While Black examines the historical plight of Black farmers in the United States. It looks at the current generation reclaiming its land and reconnecting with its ancestral roots. Director Mark Decena will be discussing the film’s impact goals. Those include bringing the movie to Black farmers, community gardeners, land stewards, and allies. Decena hopes they will reconnect to their Afro-Indigenous roots related to sustainable farming to heal and find strength and inspiration in the land. The goal is to change the food system to be more just, healthy, and climate-resilient.

Mark Decena is a writer, director, and producer of award-winning feature films, television programming, and web and brand films. He is a three-time Sundance alumnus whose work spans narrative features to documentaries and shorts.
